YALE TANGO CAMP
Tango camping hiking swimming weekend
July 13-15, 2007
Classes with famous Robin Thomas and Kyla Mares
!!

We can't contain our excitement!
We are planning the second annual Yale Tango Camp summer weekend at this wonderful Yale estate with big lake, canoes, woods, campsites, and floors suitable for dancing. Pictures below.

You can have morning coffee while dangling your feet in the lake, practice a gancho, grill a sausage on the barbecue, take a tango class, go for a swim in the lake, do some traspie, chase the squirrels, go fishing, practice some boleos, chill on the lake shore or hike up the hill, take a shower and put on a fresh t-shirt, and tango some more! We'll sit around the campfire and sing La Cumparsita while grilling marshmallows. Yey!

We have a reservation for the group campsite (the group campsite is like a large wooden dorm tent; bring sleeping bag and pad). You can bring a tent and sleep in that. There is a dining hall on the hill with a beautiful huge polished wood floor and large wood plank deck--a great dance surface.

We'll bring the coffee set up, charcoal for the BBQ, tango DJ, and famous Robin Thomas from NYC, as well as his partner Kyla Mares from Reno, NV. You bring your bathing suit, hiking boots, tango shoes, tent and/or sleeping bag, and a cooler with food and grillables. Staggering from the dance floor to your tent will be half the fun, but you could commute to New Haven. However we want to have a sizable overnight presence there or we will not be able to use the facilities after dark, since the park closes to day visitors at sunset.

Register or reserve soon
Paypal/credit cards only!

Who's invited?

All our students who tango (advanced beginner and up), and their significant others.
Space is limited.
There will be no classes for total beginners, and we are not accepting sign-ups by people who are not at least advanced beginner level tango dancers (unless they are the significant other of a participant who is).

If you are not a Yale Tango Club regular and want to stay overnight you are welcome by invitation only.  An invitation will be readily extended upon request to people we know by sending an e-mail to summercamp@yaletangoclub.org with an explanation of who you are and how we know you. You can also contact the club leadership directly.

Food

We can't cater the entire weekend event for 50 people in the middle of nowhere! But we can make things super easy for you.
There is a fully equipped indoor kitchen where you can store the food you bring, and do some basic preparation. Please bring your food in labeled boxes or bags, and separate out the refrigerated and non-refrigerated items. Please also label any supplies you bring, like cutting board or knife or containers.  If you use the kitchen you are required to clean up after yourself.
We will supply coffee makers, coffee, milk, sugar and hot cups, these will be in the dining hall.  Please, if you take the last cup, make new and press the button.
There are barbecue facilities all over the place. Please, when you go food shopping, buy charcoal and matches.
Drinking water will be available, bring your own ice cubes and soda.

Please be a team player!
  Be prepared and bring enough food for yourself and any friends you may want to share with. Do not expect that others will have extra food they will be able to share with you.  Thank you!

Price

The prices below are firm. If you drop in even for just a few hours, the day price applies.

The reason is that our group gets billed for admission and insurance per every pair of feet walking through the gate no matter how long they stay. Moreover, the rental of the dance floor is hundreds of dollars per day. So if you show up without having signed up beforehand, please see Laurel. Thanks!

The price includes:
* all the tango classes with famous Robin Thomas from NY and Kyla Mares (1 on Friday, 2 Saturday, 1 Sunday)
* all the dancing there is (we rent the dining hall which has a beautiful wood floor)
* overnight camping, if applicable, in camp shelter, group tent or your own tent
* use of shower facilities
* morning coffee
* use of the available BBQ setups
* swimming
* hiking
* lounging on the beach
* using recreational facilities

* insurance

The price does NOT include:
* transportation to and from
* meals; please bring all of your own edibles/grillables. There is a fully equipped kitchen where you can store/prepare
* canoe, kayak and rowboat rental
* being served and catered to; you have to set up your own tent, and help with the group tent if you are staying in it, help clean the camp shelter, prepare your food, and clean up after yourself in the kitchen

In the event that we get close to full, students will get priority to the group campsite (shelter + room for tents); other campsites can be rented separately, we are willing to make the reservation but you'll have to pay a bit extra.

(Prices may change slightly as we determine costs; will be firm at registration)
